Spreadsheet-Aided Engineering - 576
This hands-on workshop has been presented over 100 times. It provides an in-depth foundation in the Spreadsheet Aided Engineering Series. The Excel/VBA working environment is used to establish Excel as a powerful platform for performing engineering system design, analysis, and optimization. Emphasis is placed on developing practices which lead to good worksheet field structures, development of reusable function libraries, and making maximum use of existing engineering toolboxes. General engineering system applicability is emphasized through the use of the Numerical Analysis Toolbox. This approach leads to methodologies, which are applicable to any engineering system. Participants are led through a structured approach to systems design, with the basic principle of object-oriented programming introduced along the way. The elements of Visual Basic are introduced while learning to extend the capability of working on the worksheet. Participants learn how to use UserForms and ActiveX controls to develop graphical user Interfaces which can be used to modularize and control inputs and system configuration choices. VBA is used to automate repetitive process such as goal seeking, charting, configuration change, data filtering, optimization, etc. (3-5-days - Mincer, Smith, Squier)

Visual Basic for Applications - 704
This hands-on workshop is designed for all Excel Power Users who want to learn VBA. It uses the Excel Object Model for learning the basics of VBA. Since Excel is the most popular VBA Application it is a logical choice to use for learning VBA fundamentals. Most objects in the Excel object model library are already recognized by users, which make it easier to relate to the object oriented concepts. This lays the foundation for moving on to object models of other applications and for integration and communication between object model libraries. The VBA language is covered in detail including data types, functions and sub-procedures, scope, arrays, control structures, variable naming convention, debugging, error trapping, file I/O, etc. It also covers the basics of application object models, as well as object properties, methods and events. Participants learn how to develop their own Userforms with supporting ActiveX controls to provide forms driven choices and project control. (3-Days)
